Risk Management

The Guilford County Risk Management Department serves as a resource for the health, safety, and well-being of Guilford County employees, residents, and visitors.

Risk Management involves oversight and protection for the county's assets through purchase of insurance, contractual transfer of risk, program and operational analysis, mitigation of incurred losses, and loss prevention programs to minimize risk and loss potential. Risk Management also encompasses employee safety, and all required Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reporting and oversees the management of all Workers' Compensation, Liability and Property claims.

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), as amended by the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2010, prohibits discrimination against qualified individuals with a disability. The ADA provides comprehensive civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities in the areas of employment, public accommodations, and governmental services.

Title I of the ADA prohibits state and local governments from discriminating against qualified individuals with a disability regarding employment and employment opportunities. All decisions related to employment, including, but not limited to, recruitment, selection, training, assignment, reassignment, promotion, compensation, transfer, and benefit, will be made based on the individual’s knowledge, skills, and abilities, in conjunction with the needs of the County, while considering any requested reasonable accommodation.

Title II of the ADA prohibits of state and local governments from discriminating against qualified individuals with disabilities in providing services, programs, and activities, as well as in providing access to public facilities. Regulations implementing Title II of the ADA call upon state and local governments to ensure that individuals with physical and mental disabilities are afforded equal opportunity to participate in any public benefit programs, services, and activities. Guilford County strives to ensure that individuals with disabilities can use, participate in, and enjoy the services, programs, and activities, as well as facilities, which the county provides.

Under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Guilford County is required to ensure that county facilities, services, and programs are accessible to people with disabilities and in compliance with the ADA.
