Every Baby Guilford invites the Guilford County community to attend 2025 Black Maternal Health Week: Family Day, an interactive health fair promoting access to maternal health resources, education and support. This event will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 at Center City Park in Greensboro.

This inaugural 2025 Black Maternal Health Week: Family Day will feature a wide variety of activities led by health professionals, community leaders and maternal health advocates. The event is hosted in collaboration with NC Black Alliance, Guilford County Schools, NCAT Pathway 2 Human Lactation Training Program, TCC Community Health Foundation and the Greensboro Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about maternal health challenges, engage in conversations about maternal health and discover perinatal health resources and support services available in Guilford County for all families. Key highlights of the event include a one-mile walk, alternative body movements, Dancing for Birth classes, a special photo opportunity, storytelling recordings, a live DJ and raffles.

The Guilford County community is invited to register to attend and get involved in the effort by:

"We are excited to bring together families and individuals to not only celebrate their voices, perspectives and lived experiences, but also to educate and support each other in a way that strengthens our community as a whole," said Jean Workman, Program Manager, Guilford County Division of Public Health. "Through this event, we will provide tools, resources and a space for participants to learn about the vital importance of maternal health."

Every Baby Guilford, a collective action movement launched in 2021, has been at the forefront of initiatives to address infant mortality in the region. Statistics reveal that Guilford County's infant mortality rate stands at 8.8 deaths per 1,000 live births, consistently exceeding state and national averages. In addition, the fetal infant death rate is 8.9 per 1,000 deliveries. Both of these trends are particularly pronounced within the Black community, where infant mortality and fetal death rates each are almost three times higher than that of white infants.
