Wildlife Education Center

The Frank Sharpe Jr. Wildlife Education Center is located at Bur-Mil Park for the purpose of educating the public about wildlife and natural resources through programs and displays. Admission is free.

The Wildlife Education Center is housed in a renovated barn that has been on the property since the early 1900s. Julius W. Cone owned the original property, known as the Owl’s Roost Farm and Poker Club. Later, the property became the home of wildlife and nature aficionado Frank Sharpe Jr., for whom the building is named. The Wildlife Education Center is a cooperative effort among the North Carolina Wildlife Habitat Foundation, Guilford County, the City of Greensboro, and private sponsors.

The Wildlife Center features live animal exhibits and a children’s area that provides a hands-on learning area for toddlers and young children.

In the center’s retail area, you can buy fishing passes for the ponds, trail map booklets, or fishing bait. You can also participate in the North Carolina Fishing Loan-a-Rod Program. For details about fishing laws in North Carolina, visit the NC Wildlife Resources Commission website.
