Ensuring the safety and well-being of youth in our community is a priority for Guilford County. We offer the following services and programs to ensure children and youth are safe and supported. The Permanency Planning/Foster Care program works to ensure that safe, temporary care is available and provided to children of Guilford County who are in need of protection, and are in the legal custody of the Department of Social Services.

Child Protective Services works to protect Guilford County’s children, strengthen the ability of families to protect and care for their own children, minimize harm to children and youth, and to ensure permanence in children’s lives. To support intact families, when appropriate, to stabilize the family situation and strengthen the family’s ability to fulfill parental responsibility for children.

The Adoption Services program works to help children whose parents are incapable of assuming or continuing parental responsibilities, become part of a new family by establishing the legal relationship of parent and child between persons who are not related by birth, with the same mutual rights and obligations that exist between children and their birth parents. To respond to court orders, determine appropriate adoptive placements for children, and supervise adoptive placements.
