Environmental Education
One of Guilford County’s state mandated responsibilities is to provide public outreach and environmental education. Keeping our community informed about County environmental services, programs and important environmental issues, as well as new federal and state regulations is one of our top priorities. As a result, we have developed a variety of informative programs and exhibits tailored to community events, civic groups, clubs, schools, Scout programs, and other organizations.
School Programs
Customized presentations and lessons for individual schools or classrooms are available upon request. We are happy to work with teachers and school staff to develop program content designed to cover specific topics. We also offer large group presentations for the entire school from Pamlico Joe and Clean Water Flow.
Speaker/Presentation Information
Does your organization need a speaker to present information about a specific environmental topic? Would your community event like to include an environmental exhibit booth staffed by courteous and knowledgeable County staff? How about fun, educational games to engage the younger set?
County environmental services staff are available to provide interesting and informative presentations for civic organizations, Scout groups, community events, and school classes at no charge. Programs can be tailored to address specific areas of interest and to be age appropriate. Possibilities range from formal presentations for large groups to interactive programs, games and exhibits for adults and/or children. PETE, Guilford County’s recycling mascot, is available to appear at functions and events as well. Speakers can provide pertinent printed materials for participants and environmentally oriented prizes for children. Some of the most requested topics include:
- Recycling
- Habits for a Green Lifestyle
- Protecting Our Environment
- Illegal Dumping and Littering
- Hazardous Waste in Your House
- Environmentally Preferable Purchasing
- Techniques for Saving Energy
- Greening Your Workplace
