General Information

The Register of Deeds handles filings for sole proprietorships, partnerships, corporations (doing business under an assumed name), and limited liability companies (LLCs) doing business under an assumed name.

The filer is responsible for researching the name for availability in Guilford County. To obtain a Certificate of Assumed Name form, visit the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina. The form that you select must be completed in accordance with NCGS 161-14. Submit the completed form to the Register of Deeds office for recordation. The recording fee per NCGS 161-10 is $26 for the first 15 pages, $4 for each additional page thereafter.
