About

Tab/Accordion Items

The Guilford County Tax Department is comprised of both the Assessor and Collector Offices. The Assessor’s Office is responsible for the listing, appraisal, and assessment of all taxable property in Guilford County. The Collector’s Office is responsible for the collection of all property taxes in Greensboro, Jamestown, Oak Ridge, Pleasant Garden, Sedalia, Summerfield, Whitsett, Gibsonville, and parts of Archdale, Burlington, Kernersville, and High Point, due to Guilford County.

Each year in late December, personal property listing forms are sent to property owners who had a personal property listing in the prior year. All personal property subject to annual listing must be listed during the month of January in order to avoid a 10% late listing penalty as mandated by state law. Because Guilford County utilizes a permanent listing system for real estate, real property does not have to be listed unless an improvement or deletion was made to the property during the preceding calendar year. Listing forms are available through the links on the Tax Department web pages. Persons listing real or personal property for the first time should contact the Tax Assessor’s Office for listing information. In addition to listing services, the Assessor’s office administers tax relief programs for qualified applicants.

The Tax Assessor’s primary responsibility is to appraise, list and assess all taxable real and personal property each year and furnish tax base figures to the county, municipalities and fire departments for budget purposes. Real estate is currently revalued every five (5) years in Guilford County. This procedure allows the Tax Department to adjust the appraised value of real estate to reflect the property’s true value in light of changing real estate market conditions. The most recent revaluation occurred in 2022.
