About Animal Services

Guilford County Animal Resource Center

The Guilford County Animal Resource Center is the only public, open admission animal services center in Guilford County.

We are a professional, caring organization devoted to saving the lives of lost, abandoned and surrendered animals of Guilford County. We strive to humanely care for all animals and work diligently to return lost animals to their owners. We are committed to making every adoption a positive, permanent experience for both the animals and the pet owner. We also conduct community awareness programs such as education on pet care and responsibility, as well as community outreach programs.

We are committed to every animal that arrives at our facility, and to placing every adoptable animal into a new home. Our staff is devoted to treating every animal to help it get adopted. When we have an animal that cannot be placed by our organization, we work collaboratively with other rescue organizations to help place specific dogs, cats, livestock, exotic and wildlife. We are proud to have a 90% live release rate for cats and an 84% live release rate for dogs in 2023. Live release rates are determined by the number of animals that come into the shelter, divided by the number of animals who had a successful outcome through adoption and rescue partners.  Last year 8,355 animals entered our shelter compared to 5,526 in 2022.

Hours of Operation

We are open Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. We are closed on Tuesdays.

Appointments

We are open by appointment only for owner surrenders to ensure we have space. To apply for an owner surrender appointment, please visit our Owner Surrender Page.

You do not need an appointment to reclaim a lost pet, if you found a stray pet, or to drop off donations.
