Planning Board

The Guilford County Planning Board is a citizen board appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. The board works closely with the Planning and Development Department and is responsible for deciding cases for zoning map amendments, road name changes, road closings, easement closings, and appeals from the Technical Review Committee and makes recommendations to the Board of Commissioners.

Board of Adjustment

The Guilford County Board of Adjustment is a five (5)-member quasi-judicial body composed of county citizens appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. The Board of Adjustment serves as a review board whereby relief to the law may be granted to mitigate hardships.

Technical Review Committee

The Technical Review Committee is composed of Planning and Development staff and other representatives from Fire Marshal’s office and NCDOT. They are responsible for the review and presentation of site plans and subdivision plats for compliance with the County Development Ordinance. The committee also hears appeals from denied minor subdivisions.

Historic Preservation Commission

The Guilford County Historic Preservation Commission’s purpose is to safeguard its heritage by preserving property therein that embodies important elements of its cultural, social, economic, political, and architectural history. It also promotes the use and conservation of such property for the education, enrichment and pleasure of the residents of the county and the state as a whole.
