The Risk Management Department wishes to advise employees that we have started testing emergency notifications in our buildings in response to a recent upgrade in the county’s Everbridge communication system. This will be an on-going procedure for the foreseeable future. The Everbridge upgrade can send a message to a specific building, or a blanket broadcast to all employees.
Please note that while GEANI and Everbridge perform similar functions, they do not share contact information. GEANI is open to the public, while Everbridge is for employees only. We encourage employees sign up for both to receive weather alerts at home, in the car, etc. in addition to the workplace. Employees can sign up with GEANI on their own, while Everbridge requires direct contact with the department specific Human Resources representative.
We also ask employees to please locate and read the county’s Emergency Action Plan (EAP). It can be accessed by going to One Place, then Risk Management tab on the left, then the Workplace Emergency Situations tab. Please especially note pages 6-11, which outline the three levels of building lockdown (Shelter in Place, Hold and Secure, and Full Lockdown), as well as suggested procedures for an Active Shooter/Assailant. The county EAP provides general guidance for various types of incidents and helps prepare employees for the unexpected. Employees should also be familiar with their own department or location specific Emergency Action Plan.
We wish everyone a safe and healthy 2020.
