Guilford County recognizes National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week

Guilford County Continuum of Care partners with county departments and community partners to host weeklong awareness of food insecurity and lack of affordable housing

Post Date:11/13/2024 3:45 PM

The Guilford County Board of Commissioners is recognizing Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week to encourage community members to come together to amplify attention to the growing concerns of hunger and homelessness across Guilford County. During the Thursday, Nov. 7, board meeting, the Board of Commissioners declared Sunday, Nov. 17 to Saturday, Nov. 23, as National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week in Guilford County. This national campaign, sponsored by the National Coalition for the Homeless and the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness, aligns with the county’s commitment to the Guilford County Continuum of Care (CoC) and its dedicated efforts to coordinating housing and service solutions for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

“Guilford County stands firmly in supporting our most vulnerable residents, including those who are facing food insecurity and homelessness, said Board of Commissioners Chair Melvin “Skip” Alston. “We encourage everyone to participate in Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week and come together in the events planned to help share resources to those who may need it the most, as it’s a powerful reminder that we can make a difference when we come together as One Guilford.”

Through Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, the Guilford County CoC, in partnership with county departments and community partners, will host a series of events designed to increase awareness and inspire community action to fight hunger and homelessness. The week-long event includes a county-wide food drive, an awareness expo, and volunteer opportunities, all aimed at engaging the community in this critical work.
