Humane euthanasia is a difficult decision that many pet owners must face. We are here for you and your pet in this difficult time. We understand that humane euthanasia is not an easy decision to have to make for your loved pet. It can have a burden not only on your heart, but financially as well. Because of this, some pets that should have their passing eased have it prolonged due to financial hardships humane euthanasia may cause. It is our mission at Guilford County Animal Services to help our community and pets in any way we can. 

Guilford County Animal Services offers Owner Requested Euthanasia (ORE) appointments for those who may be unable to say goodbye at a veterinary office due to finances. This is a $20 service we offer to our community. We are sorry, but we are unable to accept animals from other counties, and it will be necessary for you to provide proof of Guilford County residency when bringing a pet to the shelter. We will require veterinary information at the time of surrender to confirm they have been seen by a Veterinarian. Please understand that if an animal is surrendered to GCAS as an Owner Requested Euthanasia that you will not be able to be present for the euthanasia or receive your pet's remains back.

We strive to do what is best for every animal that enters our facility and do not guarantee that an animal surrendered over to us for Owner Requested Euthanasia will be euthanized. Once an animal is surrendered to the Guilford County Animal Shelter by its owner, it becomes our responsibility to do what is best for the pet. We will have our veterinary staff evaluate all animals to confirm that humane euthanasia is the best course of action for that animal. 

Owner Requested Euthanasia is done by appointment only to ensure staff is available.
