The Oak Grove School is a reproduction of the original schoolhouse that served the students of this area in the late 1800s and the early 1900s. The schoolhouse offers visitors the opportunity to experience what it was like to attend school 100 years ago when their great, great, great, great-grandparents attended school. The schoolhouse, located near the original schoolhouse site, was designed and constructed based on the memories of the last few remaining students that attended the Oak Grove School.

Like the original schoolhouse, the Oak Grove Schoolhouse has only one room and every grade level was taught in that room at the same time. Grades 1-10 were offered for students and any additional schooling was found at higher learning institutions.

Schoolhouse Reservations

School field trips to use the Oak Grove Schoolhouse for a real hands-on experience can be arranged by calling the park office at 336-641-2090. A brief explanation of life at the school will be given by the park staff and then the school and the lesson plan are all yours. Many visiting classes dress in period attire to further the experience. Some of the park’s trails come by the schoolhouse and can be use for educational walks or to visit a nearby pond and study aquatic life.
