Friends Against Fraud

In April 2017, the Elder Justice Committee launched Friends Against Fraud as a certification program designed to educate and equip citizens with knowledge and resources to reduce the prevalence of common frauds and scams targeting seniors in our community.

Friends Against Fraud has three focus areas:

  • Helping older adults have a better understating of fraud
  • Increasing participant’s feelings of confidence in talking with friends and family about fraud and abuse
  • Increasing the likelihood that an older adult would intervene to support a friend or loved one who may be at risk of or is currently being scammed.

Frauds and scams are everywhere. Knowing ways to protect yourself and your loved ones is essential. Join us to learn about common scams and strategies for prevention and protection.

Vital Signs

In November 2018, the Elder Justice Committee launched Vital Signs, a professional level training focused on reducing risks and improving responses to sexual abuse of older adults.

The Vital Signs workshop has three objectives:

  • Help professionals define and understand sexual abuse;
  • Increase participant knowledge of potential red flags and indicators of abuse;
  • Provide information about strategies that could be implemented to reduce risk and support survivors.

adults. The Guilford County Family Justice Center's Elder Justice Committee is recognized as a local, state, and national leader in developing and implementing specialized training supporting older adults' health and safety.

Who should attend? Professionals working in long-term care facilities, administrators, social workers, home health staff, law enforcement officers, DSS APS, healthcare professionals, case managers, and victim advocates.

Certificates of Education will be provided. This course has been approved for 2 CEUS for Nursing Home Administrators.

  • Definitions, red flags, and case examples of sexual abuse
  • Strategies for responding and supporting survivors
  • Overview of reporting requirements and expectations
  • Recommendations for risk reduction and prevention
