Throughout the year, youth ages 7-16 experience a community of hope and healing through holistic year-round programming and group mentorship. We define hope as “believing in yourself, believing in others, and believing in your dreams.”

The Family Justice Center aims to connect and mentor youth with shared experiences of violence and abuse, and empower them on their journey to hope and healing.

In these programs, youth connect with others, heal from trauma, and learn important skills. These skills include communication, teamwork, problem-solving, setting goals, resilience, and creativity. We explore nature, enjoy arts, and play games. We also hold seasonal activities and teach life skills. Working with local agencies and experts, we create valuable experiences for youth. Some of our community partners include: Alliance of Therapy Dogs, C3 Community Collaboration for Children, Backpack Beginnings, Guilford County Parks, Greensboro Parks and Recreation, Guilford County 4H, Horsepower Therapeutic Learning Center, Nehemiah Community Empowerment Center, Punch4Pounds Kids, YMCA, and more.

The Family Justice Center's youth programming includes Camp HOPE, a week of overnight camp each summer where participants experience hope through friendship, campfire talks, and high adventure, challenge-by-choice activities. Through our partnership with YMCA Camp Weaver, we create a safe environment for youth impacted by domestic violence where they feel valued, seen, encouraged, and loved.

Camp HOPE America exists to give children their childhood back. Through friendships with one another, campfire talks, and challenge-by-choice activities, campers experience the power of hope and healing in community together for 6 days and 5 nights. High Adventure campers age 13-16 participate in more challenging activities, leadership experiences, and meaningful conversations around the campfire. Young adult volunteers known as HOPE Counselors provide cabin support with YMCA Camp Weaver staff to provide a 1:3 ratio of counselors to campers. Our professional support staff team of volunteers includes mental health therapists, child and family advocates, law enforcment officers, attorneys, medical staff, and camping and mentoring professionals. Over 3,000 volunteer hours are provided in order to make Camp HOPE a success. 

While at camp, youth explore outdoor activities such as high ropes, horseback riding, swimming, and ziplining that help them overcome fears and try new things in a safe, supportive setting. Youth participate in collaborative, team-building activities and learn what it means to believe in themselves, each other, and their dreams.

Volunteer HOPE Counselors serve as mentors, leaders, and cheerleaders for youth participants. This opportunity to build relationships with children and teens who have experienced trauma is life-changing for both the youth and the volunteers. We are looking for young adults age 17-24 who have a passion for working with youth, and who are energetic, patient, committed, encouraging, and fun!

Volunteer training is provided, and volunteers are eligible for service learning hours for their participation (Camp HOPE includes up to 125 hours for selected volunteers).

Our volunteers provide over 3000 hours of support each year - we would not have such a fun, intentional community without them!

Referrals for children ages 7-13 are accepted year-round for the FJC’s youth program. Professionals and families may submit referrals for children impacted by domestic violence.

Due to limited space at camp, a referral does not guarantee invitation for attending the week of Camp HOPE.
