As a result of the community engagement sessions and strategic planning working group meetings, Every Baby Guilford developed a list of strategies and interventions that partners identified as areas where Collective Action could increase access to quality care for birthing people and infants.

  • The strategies are fundamental approaches to the work. Community Action for Healthy Babies will oversee how these strategies are infused into activities.
  • The interventions are organizing or mutually-reinforcing activities that partners will work together to complete over the next five years. Implementation Teams will oversee the implementation of these interventions, which have been grouped based on the relatedness of those activities (by partners involved, subject matter, or aim of the work).
  • Every Baby Guilford, the backbone entity, is listed as Intervention #1 because its role as a backbone for Collective Action acts as a catalyst for change in activities in the county. EBG will act as the backbone entity of the broader Collective Action process. Staff at EBG will support community engagement as needed, sometimes acting as conveners, facilitators, and holder of partnerships.

Strategies and Interventions

Our Common Purpose
  1. Advancing health equity by addressing systemic racism and implicit bias within the continuum of care for maternal and infant health
  2. Centering community with radically inclusive community engagement to collectively create equitable  solutions
  3. Strengthening the continuum of care of reproductive health - from preconception to prenatal, to interconception care - for equitable access to quality care
  4. Promoting infant wellness and positive child development

Intervention 1:Backbone Organization (Every Baby Guilford)

Solidify Every Baby Guilford infrastructure to manage the logistical aspects of the Collective Action and guides community partners to take action and measure progress that result in agreed upon outcomes.

Intervention 2:

Co-design a Community "Checklist" that is developed, shared, and promotes self-advocacy.  The goal is to build trust between patients and providers.

Intervention 3:

Promote and implement racial equity and implicit bias capacity building with providers to improve quality of care.  This could include training and practice improvements.

Intervention 4Education and awareness campaign:

Messaging across the continuum of care. This could include toolkits for providers, parents, and other community members to reach more people.

Intervention 5: Community Storytelling Project:

Engage parents, families, and community (leverage existing groups through partnerships) to amplify the experiences of community members, create collaborative solutions, and drive health improvements. There will be targeted engagement with the Black community.

Intervention 6: Community Circles/Groups:

A space for the community to support families, strengthen connections, share learnings, and action planning/advocacy.  Would include parents, family members, and leverage existing groups through partnerships. Targeted engagement with the Black community.

Intervention 7:

Promote healthcare access & referrals for care and supports. Would leverage existing partnerships and local navigation services.

Intervention 8:

Collective advocacy to address barriers to healthcare (i.e. Medicaid expansion, or sliding scales for people who don’t qualify).
