Legislators in Raleigh made recovering and recycling electronics a priority in North Carolina by banning computer equipment and televisions from being disposed of in landfills. It is illegal to dispose of these items in the trash.

Keeping these materials out of landfills is important for a healthy environment and vibrant economy.  Landfill space is at a premium in North Carolina; removing these items from our waste stream will save space for materials that cannot be reused or recycled. Valuable materials recovered from old electronics can be used to make new products.  As a result, we create less pollution and save energy and natural resources by extracting fewer raw materials from the earth.  In addition, Guilford County and the southeastern United States are home to many recycling processors. Feeding these businesses with the needed materials helps save money and jobs in our local communities.

These sites offer a convenient, safe, and secure way to dispose of household electronics and virtually anything with a plug. The items collected are stored, transported, and processed securely at a local facility.
