As of 2012, the State of North Carolina no longer requires individual counties to update their Solid Waste Management Plan. Each county is required to submit a comprehensive Solid Waste and Materials Management Annual Report to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) so that they can assess the progress in meeting the goals set out in G.S. 130A-309.04.
