EENC is the professional organization for environmental educators in North Carolina. Our organization represents a network of outstanding environmental educators, individuals, and organizations who work together to accomplish our core mission: to build connections, provide professional development, and promote excellence in environmental education.
A good way to explore involvement in EENC is to attend all or part of our annual conference, September 9-10,2022 at McKimmon Conference and Training Center in Raleigh, NC. Contact the Piedmont Section Chair, Erin Hines, for more information on EENC.
NC Office of Environmental Education
The NC Office of Environmental Education is housed in the NC Department of Environmental Quality and is mandated to encourage, promote, and support environmental education programs, facilities, and resources across NC. To that end, the NC Office of Environmental Education administers the Environmental Educator Certification program, a listserv connecting environmental educators statewide, a job board advertising open environmental education positions, and more.
North American Association of Environmental Educators (NAAEE)
NAAEE is the largest professional organization for environmental educators in the world, and the organization has developed a research-based set of recommendations for a student’s pathway to environmental literacy. They organized their pathway into a set of 4 “strands” and make recommendations for where learners should be at in their understanding of the strands in grades 4, 8, and 12 using input from national science standards.
Teachers who see environmental literacy as a goal they wish to further through their instruction in any subject will find NAAEE’s guidelines to be an easy to read, easy to understand, and easy to implement structure.
