General Information

The Register of Deeds office administers notary public oaths for Guilford County notaries and authenticates Guilford County notary signatures.

Requirements

All notary public forms are available at the North Carolina Department of the Secretary of State website. You will need to mail the application form to the North Carolina Department of the Secretary of State. The North Carolina Department of the Secretary of State will notify you to take an oath at the Register of Deeds Office. No appointment is necessary. Once you receive notification from the North Carolina Department of the Secretary of State’s Office, come to our office any time between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Bring your notice from the North Carolina Department of the Secretary of State’s office. The $10 fee is payable by cash, card or check. You must show a photo ID when taking the oath.

Notary Public Oaths

The Register of Deeds office administers notary public oaths for Guilford County notaries Monday through Friday. To access notary public forms or to learn about the qualifications for notary public, follow this link to the North Carolina Department of the Secretary of State Notary Division. You will receive by mail a notice to be sworn in at the Register of Deeds office. The notary public oath fee is $10. You must present a photo ID.

Notary Public Authentications

The Register of Deeds office authenticates Guilford County notary public signatures at a fee of $1 per authentication. To authenticate a Guilford County notary public, the notary acknowledgement, notary signature, seal and expiration date must be present. Notary public authentications are processed the day they are received. We will forward your authenticated document to the North Carolina Department of the Secretary of State’s office if you enclose a prepaid envelope.
